About TCS

Treacher Collins Syndrome is a condition that affects the bone structure of the face and head especially affecting the ears, jaw, & cheekbones preventing the skull, cheeks and jawline from developing properly, causing facial anomalies.

Complications may include breathing problems, problems seeing and hearing loss. In most cases the severity ranges from mild to very severe. About one child in every 50,000 is affected.

A narrowing of the airway often occurs causing breathing issues which then a tracheostomy is commonly required.

With the loss of hearing in most cases hearing aids is necessary. Cosmetic surgery can help improve some of the difficulties caused by TCS as well as achieving normal cognitive development.
