How did John Cavallo Meet Meagan Kinney?
I started attending Intercessor Church in Malverne, NY and gradually took steps to become involved in the church. Meagan and her family have been part of this congregation for many years. I found great joy in hosting and greeting every Sunday. This propelled me forward to sign-up for courses in training to become a Stephen Minister. Stephen Ministers are lay congregation members trained to provide one-to-one care to those experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or relocation.
On my first class I had met her mother Debbie Kinney, at this point i had no knowledge of Meagan. Then after a few weeks Meagan had entered my life.
I was hosting on Ash Wednesday and I was blessed to greet the entire Kinney family. I gave Debbie a hug and was introduced to her son James and her daughter Meagan. They went into church for service and I was left outside on the church steps struck in awe by God.
One of my lifetime goals was to start a non-profit charity. The instant that Meagan walked past me I knew that she was placed in my life to be a part of this vision. This awe struck feeling never went away until the day of our Stephen Ministry commencement.
I was asked to deliver the closing prayer of this ceremony and realized as I accepted this task God had given me a opportunity to ignite the path for Meagan and I. During this closing prayer I gifted each individual being commenced the same style cross displaying the adoration I had for all of them. I was left with one cross, which belonged to my grandmother Adalgisa I had inherited when she passed in 2003.
With a heart warming invitation I had asked Meagan to accept my grandmothers cross and ask for her friendship. She kindly made her way to the altar, gave me a hug and accepted. Proceeding the ceremony, all families gathered for a luncheon in which I was able to explain to Meagan my vision of the non-profit and asked her if she would be my Co-founder. This was the second time I met Meagan and the first time we spoke. She graciously accepted the idea and we teamed up and formed the Tumbleweeds Foundation
